Otorii
Miyajima’s symbol “Otorii” has become a nationally designated important cultural property due to its eccentricity of building underwater, its magnificent structure, and its beautiful colors and shapes. The current torii was built in 1875. The height of this torii is about 16m, and it uses the natural wood of camphor tree, and it stands under its own weight just by being placed in the sea. At high tide, you can see the large torii floating in the sea, and at low tide, you can walk to the feet of the large torii.
